AbleNet Co-Founder Jackie Levin Announces Plans to Pursue New Opportunities
St. Paul, MN - October 1, 2007 -AbleNet's Jackie Levin announced plans to step down from her current position as Director of Research and New Product Development. As one of AbleNet's co-founders, Jackie was instrumental in developing the first product that launched the company - a highly sensitive switch that gave individuals with moderate to severe physical and cognitive disabilities the ability to activate toys, appliances and electronics with the slightest touch. Today, AbleNet is a global leader in the field of assistive technologies for persons with disabilities, and has led the way in providing curricula, skills development products and assistive technologies for special education students in the United States and around the world.
Having worked side-by-side with Jackie Levin for nearly three decades, fellow AbleNet co-founder and CEO Emeritus, Cheryl Volkman, speaks highly of Jackie's many contributions, "Jackie Levin is a visionary. She has the uncanny ability to understand challenges and a creative mind to see solutions. I have always admired this strength -- the company and customers have benefited greatly from her many product development contributions."
Levin's background as a speech pathologist and educational programmer, with a Masters of Arts degree in Communication Disorders from the University of Minnesota, proved to be the first step down a career path that would lead in many life-affirming directions for her, but more importantly, for others.
"I will always be part of AbleNet, simply by virtue of having been there since its inception. That fact will never change," said Levin. "My plans for the future are merely an extension of what I experienced during my tenure with AbleNet. What I experienced, and contributed to, was an atmosphere of creative collaboration for the greater good and an ability to solve challenges with solutions that resonate with customers."
For Levin, identifying challenges and finding solutions are her strengths. As part of that commitment she is dedicated to helping people in transition. "I'm a champion of the human spirit. It's what I did as a speech pathologist, it's what I did at AbleNet for young people with severe cognitive and physical disabilities, and now it's what I'm doing in my present projects. These projects include "Project M," "The Butterfly Peace Path," the "Fundamentals of Collaboration" model, and life coach, leadership development consultant and peace educator," said Levin.
